Another excellent Skep Wax release, this time bringing together Eva Cord and Archie Ingram (Stone Anthem). Anything associated with The Cords seems to turn immediately to musical gold at the moment and this four-track EP is no exception.
I'm featuring the opening The Rain Felt Kind in my Dandelion Radio show this month, and there'll be more from the EP in my shows next month. If there's a low-key lilting vibe throughout, each song has its unexpected moments that life it well above the ordinary: Eva's vocals entering I Don't Know at around 1.45 before unleashing her inner Jim Reid (the Mary Chain's more melodic side is a clear touchpoint here) acoustic strums that turn unexpectedly shimmery, the birdsong on the final track: the magic in this EP is the way it builds these elements into the mix so unobtrusively its overriding gorgeousness is left unhindered.
Can't wait to hear how this plays out across a full LP, of course, but for now you can get this wonderful EP as a download or on cassette here.
