I encountered the music of Xylitol via her alias DJ Fitnote, whose track on the excellent Sink The Rich compilation was probably my favourite of all the remarkable tracks on there. Further researched led to the belated discovery of her work for Planet Mu and the not entirely surprising realisation that it's all excellent.
Blumenfantasie was released earlier this year, a throbbing bringing together of jungle and krautrock. The accompanying notes tells us that Xylitol's aim was 'to make space and for the music to float and propel all at once', a description which comfortably trumps my own efforts to explain its appeal, so I'll stay with that. The drawing in of The Leaf Library as collaborators on the release adds further dimensions to work that is already thrillingly multi-dimension.
I'm playing Mirjana in my Dandelion show this month, a track which sports its krautrock influences most boldly via its use of an Amon Duul II sample. Hear the show on-demand here.
